The obverse of the coin is an equestrian portrait of The Queen by Arnold Machin. The Queen is shown in uniform as Colonel-in-Chief of the Grenadier Guards. This is one of the uniforms worn by Her Late Majesty at the ceremony of Trooping the Colour.

The reverse which is also by Arnold Machin shows a crown and the ampulla and anointing spoon that were used in the coronation ceremony, surrounded by a floral garland.
