Edward VII acceded to the throne in 1901 after the death of his mother, Queen Victoria. Edward VII reigned for nine years and the Edwardian era was a period of great change for the United Kingdom, with shifting social, cultural and political attitudes.
The farthing was one of the smallest denominations to circulate throughout the UK and the name farthing comes from ‘fourthing’, meaning a fourth of a penny. A design featuring Britannia appears on the reverse of this Edward VII farthing.
This coin is also available as part of The Making of Modern Britain Edward VII Bundle, which offers collectors the opportunity to own an example of each of the circulating coins of Edward VII’s reign.
