In conjunction with the National Autistic Society, The Royal Mint Experience will be offering autism-friendly tours between 5-12th October as part of the Autism Hour campaign.

Autism friendly tours will consist of smaller groups, with the exhibition volume reduced wherever possible and lighting neutralised to make the experience a more comfortable environment. Tour guides are also trained to provide extra care in these situations, providing plenty of information upfront so nothing comes as a surprise.

With 700,000 autistic people in the UK, we are proud to be participating in this rewarding campaign again this year by offering autism friendly tours.

Dan Johnson recently joined The Royal Mint Experience as Marketing and Events Manager.  He told us “I am delighted to be a part of a visitor attraction that recognises the importance of adapting to our customers’ needs to offer an inclusive environment. My son is autistic and during a recent visit to The Royal Mint Experience, the staff were great at informing him of what to expect and highlighting areas of the tour that might be louder. They engaged with him at several points throughout our visit and made the whole experience so much calmer for him.”

The Royal Mint Experience provides a great opportunity to go behind the scenes and discover stories from The Royal Mint’s 1,100-year history. Visitors can see for themselves how coins are made, then tour through a series of walk-through interactive exhibition zones that bring the organisation’s rich heritage to life. The Royal Mint Experience was also awarded The Autism Friendly Award in 2018.
