When we hear ‘Bond, James Bond’, so many classic themes and scenes come to mind, from mind-blowing technology to glamorous locations and thrilling action. However, perhaps the most iconic symbol of the world’s most famous spy is his famous Aston Martin DB5, a car that combines precision craftsmanship with peerless performance. In 2020, we released a three-coin series celebrating all things James Bond and the DB5 featured amongst the chosen designs. Our latest release features an updated version of that design, including the year 2021 – the year the long-awaited No Time To Die hits the big screen. The design by The Royal Mint’s Laura Clancy has a new twist, as the unmistakable car has an Italian registration plate, in connection with the latest film in the franchise, and also features the unmistakable ‘gun barrel’ graphic that plays such an important role in the opening sequences of the Bond films. With elements like the 007 logo and the lights, windscreen and bonnet of the DB5 being highlighted with polishing, in contrast to the frosted finish that appears on the rest of the coin, each of these coins has been struck to perfection.
