Game of Thrones

  • The Royal Mint has unveiled two collectable Ice and Fire 50p coins to mark 15 years of Game of Thrones.
  • The designs feature Daenerys's dragon and the House Targaryen sigil on the Fire 50p, while the Night King and his sigil reign over the Ice 50p.
  • Game of Thrones fans can order both coins from 9am on 15 July via The Royal Mint’s website with delivery expected in Autumn 2026.

15 July 2026: Fifteen years ago, the world was introduced to dragons, dire wolves, and the immortal warning that "winter is coming." Today, The Royal Mint is marking one and a half decades of the most talked-about fantasy series of all time with a Game of Thrones two-coin 50p collection, marking the first time that the hit series has been celebrated on official UK coins.

From 9am 15 July 2026, Game of Thrones fans and collectors can secure both coins from The Royal Mint’s website ahead of delivery in Autumn 2026.  Given the scale of the show's global fanbase, demand is expected to be high.

Made in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products (WBDGCP), the collection is built around the elemental duality that defines Game of Thrones - Ice and Fire. The Fire collectable 50p design is ingrained in the very fabric of House Targaryen by featuring the intricate detail of one of Daenery’s dragons alongside the House Targaryen sigil. The collectable Ice 50p coin, meanwhile, depicts the Night King up close along with his personal sigil. A selection of both 50p coins will also feature colour bringing both designs to life on metal.

Rebecca Morgan, Director at The Royal Mint, said: "Game of Thrones captured the imagination of millions around the world, and fifteen years on, that passion is still as fierce as dragonfire. We're incredibly proud to honour this iconic series with limited editions expected to sell quickly. Just as the iconic Iron Throne was forged in metal from a thousand swords, these coins too, are the result of extraordinary craftsmanship, meticulously struck in precious metals by the skilled hands of The Royal Mint team and built to last as long as the legacy of Game of Thrones itself. Whether you're a lifelong fan or discovering the Seven Kingdoms for the first time, these coins are a stunning tribute to one of the greatest stories ever told."

Game of Thrones first aired in April 2011 and ran for eight seasons, becoming one of the most watched television series in history. Adapted from George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels, the show attracted a global audience of over 40 million viewers per episode by its final season and won 59 Emmy Awards, more than any other drama series. Available in over 170 countries, it consistently broke streaming and broadcast records throughout its run and remains one of the most streamed shows on HBO to this day. Its legacy has inspired a passionate global fan base that continues to grow, cementing Game of Thrones as one of the most influential works of popular culture of the 21st century.

Fans can secure both coins from 9am on 15 July at www.royalmint.com, with delivery expected in autumn 2026. Prices start from £15.
