Coins struck by The Royal Mint are synonymous with Britain, a piece of the nation’s history that could be yours to keep
Every year The Royal Mint’s Annual Sets capture the nation’s striking stories, marking the year’s memorable events and anniversaries and revealing the inspiration behind our designs.
For 2017 the five commemorative editions celebrate the works of Jane Austen, one of the greatest English novelists of all time, alongside the legacy of Sir Isaac Newton, intellectual giant of the Scientific Revolution. They also celebrate a century of royal service, marking the creation of the House of Windsor, and the 1000th anniversary of the coronation of the Viking conqueror Canute the Great as king of England. In association with Imperial War Museums, we also pay tribute to the aviators of the First World War and the sacrifices they made in the race for supremacy of the skies.
2017 Annual Sets featuring definitive coins are the first to include the new 12-sided £1 coin before it enters circulation in March 2017. With its integrated High Security Feature, pioneered by The Royal Mint, the new £1 coin will be the most secure coin in the world, ensuring the future integrity of the nation’s £1 coins.
