On 6 February 2022, celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at The Royal Mint Experience, where we’re bringing out the bunting for a number of activities to mark this very special occasion.

Open from 8am until 8pm, with tours running every 20 minutes, you will have the opportunity to strike your very own Platinum Jubilee UK 50p coin featuring the commemorative Platinum Jubilee portrait of The Queen. You will be able to view our exhibition exploring Her Majesty’s reign through coins and we will be holding quintessentially British afternoon teas accompanied by live music.

Tickets cost £15.00 for adults, £11.00 for concessions (children, students and seniors) and are free for under 5s, with additional activities available to book separately.

What's On

Strike Your Own Coin

If you are visiting us on 4 January – 5 February or between 7 February and 13 March 2022, you will have the opportunity to strike your own UK 50p coin as a memento of this once-in-a-lifetime moment. The reverse of the coin will feature a design by the award-winning design agency Osborne Ross, whilst the fifth definitive coinage portrait of The Queen will appear on the obverse.

Strike Your Own Coin: 6 February 2022

If you are visiting us on 6 February 2022, you will have the opportunity to strike your very own Platinum Jubilee UK 50p coin on the very day that marks 70 years since Queen Elizabeth II inherited the throne. For this day only, the obverse of the coin will feature the Platinum Jubilee portrait of The Queen by the coinage artist John Bergdahl.

A Jubilee Afternoon Tea

Join us on 6 February 2022 for a quintessentially British afternoon tea to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The delicious spread will comprise finger sandwiches fit for the occasion, Victoria sponge cake, and scones with jam and clotted cream. You can even add a little luxury with a glass of prosecco to raise a toast to Her Majesty and 70 remarkable years.

A Musical Celebration

On 6 February 2022, the singer Paige Kenzie will be adding to the jubilee atmosphere, performing a selection of songs from throughout The Queen’s reign, including classics from Doris Day, Connie Francis, Patsy Clein, Shirley Bassey and Peggy Lee. Paige Kenzie will also be performing during our special afternoon teas and entertaining those waiting to start their tours.

Meet the Makers

On 5 march 2022 Andrew Ross and Deborah Osborne of Osborne Ross will explore the process and inspiration behind their coin design for the Platinum Jubilee. Tickets are available in limited numbers and include a tour of The Royal Mint Experience, during which guests can strike their own coin and have the packaging signed by Andrew and Deborah. Pre-booking is essential.

Conveniently located just four miles from Junction 34 of the M4, The Royal Mint Experience is just 20 minutes away from Wales’ capital city, Cardiff. Easy to get to and simple for visitors to find, our exhibition also has on-site visitor parking clearly signposted upon arrival. Best of all, our car park is free, suitable for both cars and coaches, and is also easily accessible for wheelchair users.

  • Exit junction 34 of the M4, take the exit signposted to Llantrisant
  • Follow the road through two sets of traffic lights and continue to the first roundabout
  • At the first roundabout, take the second exit and continue through two sets of traffic lights to the second roundabout
  • At the second roundabout, take the second exit
  • Continue to the next roundabout, taking the fourth exit
  • Continue straight on and take the third left to arrive in The Royal Mint Experience car park

By bus and train

The closest train station to The Royal Mint is Pontyclun which is approximately four miles from The Royal Mint Experience. There are frequent train connections to Cardiff Central but we advise booking a local taxi firm from Pontyclun to complete your journey.
