Queen Victoria acceded to the throne at the age of 18 and was the longest-reigning monarch in British history at the time of her death. Her reign witnessed several significant changes that would impact the United Kingdom for decades to come, including social reform and scientific advances. 

The sixpence has long held a special place in people’s hearts and has become popular to include in weddings, christenings and at Christmas. In 2016, we released a commemorative coin redenominated with a value of 6p so that it could continue to be used for traditional celebrations.
