Celebrating the Legends of Horse Racing

Horse racing is one of the United Kingdom's biggest spectator sports, with millions attending events all around the country each year. The sport's most famous horses have become legends in their own right, their legacy lasting far beyond their racing lifetime. Eight racing legends are celebrated with this limited edition medal and stamp set from The Royal Mint and Royal Mail. Each racehorse has been selected with the help of Great British Racing and Racing Post.

Acclaimed equestrian artist Michael Heslop has created the designs for the eight stamps that feature in this set, all cancelled with an 'Aintree, Liverpool' postmark, paying tribute to the home of the Grand National. The cover also contains a specially-commissioned medal by Laura Clancy, a Royal Mint coin designer who has depicted two horses at full gallop on the reverse. On the obverse, Laura has captured Hyperion - the horse immortalised by the statue that stands in front of the Jockey Club Headquarters.

The set includes a list of all the racehorse grounds and their locations on mainland Britain and a fully illustrated summary of the history of horseracing in the UK. It also contains the stories of the horses, featured alongside quotes from industry legends Sir Henry Cecil, Peter O'Sullevan, Peter Bromley and Ryan Moore. You'll also receive a complimentary pull-out with key facts and photographs of each of the horses, including their famous victories.
