A Special Anniversary Coin Struck in Fine Gold

The Story of Britannia is the Story of Britain

Britannia has represented the people of Britain for centuries, outlasting passing trends and weathering political and social change. The icon’s longevity may be attributed to her rich history and beauty, but it is also in no small part due to her popularity with the public. Instantly recognisable, she is symbolic of the spirit of heritage, strength and progress, and embodies the qualities of the nation. As well as being adopted on signs and monuments throughout the UK, Britannia has even appeared in high fashion magazines as a symbol of design excellence.

On the 30th anniversary of the gold Britannia coin, artist Louis Tamlyn has designed a Britannia that is both dynamic and stable, reflecting modern Britain. His design also contains the special anniversary trident mint mark with the number 30 to celebrate the historic milestone. Struck in a quarter of an ounce of 999.9 fine gold and finished to Proof standard, the coin has a diameter of 22mm. A Limited Edition Presentation of 2,500, the coin comes in a Royal Mint case, accompanied by a booklet that explores Britannia’s journey from Roman to modern day Britain, and the story behind the 2017 design.
