On 8 May 1945, the Allies finally defeated Nazi Germany, bringing an end to the Second World War in Europe and sparking celebrations across the country.
Making it official to the masses, Prime Minister Winston Churchill made a public radio announcement at 3pm that same day. Street parties broke out throughout
the United Kingdom and huge crowds gathered at public landmarks to celebrate. This included Buckingham Palace where the king himself (George VI) made an
appearance to greet the jubilant crowds, along with his immediate family and the Prime Minister. VE Day 2020 marked the historic 75th anniversary of this
momentous triumph, honoured here with a beautifully crafted UK coin. Designed by Royal Mint designer Dominique Evans, this wonderful piece of history
captures the joy and energy of the original VE Day and is the perfect way to commemorate one of the most significant events in living memory.
