The Watchful and Vigilant Sea King Honoured on a Piedfort Coin
The Royal Mint has a heritage of commemorating the important moments in British military history, and as the Royal Air Force reaches its centenary, we’re proud to mark this special year with an exciting series of coins. Each of the five £2 coins in the series celebrates the courage and spirit of both the Royal Air Force and the exceptional people who have pioneered in aviation since 1918. The penultimate aircraft to be featured is the recognisable Sea King, a powerful aircraft that entered service in 1978.
The coin’s reverse design was unusually created by two artists, brothers Richard and Neil Talbot, who collaborated to capture the Sea King in action on a rescue mission. With a diameter of more than 28mm and weighing 24 grammes, this sterling silver piedfort coin, finished to Proof standard, is a substantial tribute to the vital services the RAF has given our nation. Just 3,000 piedfort coins are available in this Limited Edition Presentation and each coin is accompanied by a booklet created in partnership with the RAF, including a quote from former Sea King pilot, His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge.
