A Tribute in Gold to the Watchful and Vigilant Sea King
As the world’s first independent air force, the Royal Air Force has led the way for a hundred years, recognised the world over for its capability, courage and innovation. In this centenary year, we’re proud to continue our tradition of honouring the Armed Forces by joining the RAF100 celebrations with five coins struck by The Royal Mint for the occasion. Now the spotlight falls on the latest RAF icon of the air to be featured in the series, the Sea King, a Search and Rescue aircraft at the forefront of navigation and recovery technology.
The reverse design by brothers Richard and Neil Talbot depicts the aircraft utilising its impressive technology to rescue a person in need. Struck in 22 carat gold and finished to Proof standard, which is the highest standard of finish you will find on commemorative coins, this is a fitting tribute to an indispensable part of the RAF and a handsome addition to any coin collection. The accompanying booklet has been produced in consultation with the RAF and includes insights from those who have flown the aircraft. Just 1,000 gold Proof editions of this official UK £2 coin are available in this Limited Edition Presentation.
