Celebrated with a Special Edition Sovereign

A Story of Love and Loyalty

On 20 November 1947 Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh were married at Westminster Abbey in front of 2,000 guests and watched by millions more around the world. 70 years later they become the first British royal couple to celebrate a platinum wedding anniversary, the latest chapter in the story of the longest royal marriage in British history. To mark this very personal milestone for the couple, The Royal Mint is celebrating with a special edition of The Sovereign; a coin that is closely associated with the monarch.

Just 750 Sovereigns will be struck on 20 November 2017, 70 years to the day after Her Majesty and Prince Philip were married. The striking will be authenticated by a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity accompanying the 22 carat gold Brilliant Uncirculated coin. The reverse of the coin features Benedetto Pistrucci’s St George and the dragon design, while the obverse bears the current coinage portrait of The Queen by Royal Mint coin designer Jody Clark.
