The Final Chapter- the Armistice
Over the past five years, five artists have explored the story of the First World War on coins, each exploring a different aspect of the conflict and its impact on the world – technology, culture, battles, heroes and the contribution of the armed forces. In 2018 we mark the end of the war and the longed-for Armistice with the final set of coins in the series.
This is an extremely Limited Edition Presentation, with just 25 sets of six £5 coins struck in 22 carat red gold available – essential to complete your collection (and completely sold out in every other year). The poignant designs, by series artists David Lawrence, David Cornell, Edwina Ellis, John Bergdahl and David Rowlands, are very different but together they honour the sacrifices made and captures the hopes for peace. Unique to this final set, five of the coins in the set are finished with edge inscriptions by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, taken from a poem specially commissioned by The Royal Mint. The Dove of Peace coin brings the commemoration to a close with an inscription symbolising the Armistice.
