Britannia’s story is woven into the very fabric of the nation. For 2,000 years Britannia has personified the British Isles and the values she upholds. A legacy of the Roman invasion, even today Britannia is all around us: think a brand name, a boat or a rousing patriotic song, an enduring symbol of national pride we rally behind come crisis or celebration. For 2018, designer David Lawrence, whose designs include contributions to our five-year series commemorating the centenary of the First World War, steers Britannia in a different direction, returning to a more classical feel inspired by Ancient Rome.
