History in your hands
Trial by jury
Created in association with Imperial War Museums and featuring an original design by creative agency Uniform, this is the only official UK £2 coin from 2016 commemorating the British Army.
Now, for the very first time, you can own one of the actual coins inspected by the jury at the Trial of the Pyx — the ancient ceremony that safeguards the integrity of our currency. Medieval in origin, the Trial remains true to its roots, a living embodiment of centuries of minting tradition. Even today, coins selected for testing must be transported in the wooden Pyx boxes into the hands of the jurors – dignitaries from the world of finance tasked with ensuring that the coins made by The Royal Mint are of the correct weight, diameter and composition required by law.
Each coin has been benchmarked against the trial plates to ensure its true weight and fineness, and comes complete with a brochure, a letter and a book about the Trial of the Pyx from The Goldsmiths’ Company, with a certificate of authenticity hand-signed by Graeme Smith, The Queen’s Assay Master.
