St Andrew's Day
26 Nov 2014
This weekend sees the start of celebrations for St Andrew’s Day on 30 November, and when it comes to a good old-fashioned coin toss to decide who starts the celebratory Scottish dancing, look no further than The Royal Mint’s 2014 £1 coin commemorating the flora of Scotland – the thistle and the bluebell.
It is one of a themed series that started in 2013 with floral £1 coins representing England and Wales, and it’s the flora of Scotland and Ireland that are celebrated on the £1 coins of 2014 - so it’s worth keeping an eye on your coins this St Andrew’s Day weekend, as you may well see the Scottish £1 in your change!
