An extract of a quote by Max Nicholson, one of the founders of WWF features on the medal. ‘WWF is not just about saving whales and tigers and rainforests, and preventing pollution and waste, but is inescapably concerned with the future conduct, welfare and happiness and indeed survival of mankind on this planet.’
WWF has long campaigned to improve the health of rivers and seas that are graced by many species of dolphin. Renowned for their intelligence and sociability, these mammals face many threats – such as habitat degradation and damaging fishing practices. The WWF has successfully campaigned for legislation to improve the management of UK seas – to benefit dolphins and other wildlife.
You can support WWF's work to safeguard dolphins and their habitat by adopting the Ileach dolphins - a pod of bottlenose dolphins that live in the waters around the Inner Hebrides, off the coast of Scotland - see wwf.org.uk/dolphinmedal
