A television phenomenon

Since Doctor Who first appeared on British television screens in November 1963, the science fiction series has become an icon of modern popular culture. Listed in the Guinness World Records as the longest-running science fiction television show in the world, the revived series, launched in 2005, is viewed in over 42 countries.

Doctor Who

The Last of the Time Lords and sole survivor of the planet Gallifrey, the Doctor fought on the front line of the Last Great Time War and was ultimately responsible for the destruction of the Daleks and of his own kind. Despite exploring every avenue open to him, he was unable to save a number of worlds and his brother, children, family and friends all perished along with his planet. Unable to go back and save them, he was left to wander the universe alone in his TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space).

Doctor Facts

  • Essentially immortal, he has spent 900 years travelling through time and space
  • He is fluent in over five billion languages
  • He has over 1,400 traffic violations, 250 outstanding library fines and 18 counts of planetary demolition to answer for
  • His adventures continue….

The Daleks

Protected by a polycarbide outer shell, a tank-like life-support machine, the Daleks were genetically engineered on the planet Skaro to be emotionless killers, with orders to conquer and destroy all other lifeforms. With a force-field capable of melting bullets on impact, the Daleks seemed completely indestructible until, in their fight against the Time Lords in the Last Great Time War, the Doctor destroyed both civilisations; thus the Doctor is known in the legends of Skaro as ‘The Oncoming Storm’ or ‘The Destroyer of Worlds’. A single Dalek survived and fell through time, crashing into the Ascension Islands in the middle of the 20th century…one Dalek in the entire Universe…
