On 27 July 2012 the Games of the 30th Olympiad will open in London. To celebrate the countdown, the Royal Mint is launching the first of four UK £5 London 2012 Countdown Coins.
The 2009 gold Proof coin features on its reverse a specially created design by Claire Aldridge, a skilled Royal Mint engraver, representing the sport of Swimming. As with all UK legal tender coins, the Queen’s portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS appears on the obverse.
