My First Coins Baby Gift Pack

This beautiful coin set has been specially designed as a gift for babies born or christened in 2012.

The baby gift set includes all eight definitive coins for 2012, from the 1p up to the £2. The coins are Brilliant Uncirculated quality, so are struck to a higher standard than the coins minted for everyday coinage, with a superb mirror-like finish.

The set comes in an charmingly illustrated presentation folder to record baby's details together with space for you to write your own special message.

This baby gift set is destined to become a unique treasured gift, as each coin carries the year baby was born or christened. It is a timeless keepsake fascinating for the child to look back on as they get older. Each coin has been individually encapsulated to preserve its condition for posterity, so you have the satisfaction of knowing that this is a gift that will truly last a lifetime.

The coins are presented to show off the detail of the Royal shield, which is shown on the reverse of the coins. Only the £1 coin features the whole shield; the denominations from the 1p to the 50p each show a part of the shield. The definitive £2 coin, struck in 1997, was the first bi-colour coin of the UK. Its reverse design was the result of a public competition and celebrates the march of technological progress in Britain from the Iron Age to the Internet Age.

All the coins feature on the obverse the acclaimed portrait of The Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS which has been used on all legal tender UK coinage since 1998.

These coins were all designed and struck by our craftsmen at The Royal Mint, as we are the official makers of UK legal tender coins.

The Queen’s Portrait

Being legal tender coins of the UK, all eight coins in the set feature the faithful likeness of The Queen created by the sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS.

The Royal Arms

New designs for the circulating coins from the 1p to the £1 were unveiled in 2008. Celebrating Britain’s ancient royal heritage, they focus entirely on the shield of the Royal Arms, a powerful symbol of monarchy used on the coinage since the reign of Edward III (1327-1377). The 1p to the 50p reveal the shield when arranged correctly while the £1 coin features the shield in its entirety.

Celebrating Technology

When it was introduced in 1997, the definitive £2 coin was the first bi-colour coin of the UKi. Its reverse design, created by Bruce Rushin, celebrates the march of technology from the Iron Age to the Internet.

The central design features the decorative whorls familiar in Ancient Celtic art and surrounding this is a circle of cogs and wheels symbolising the Industrial revolution.

The twentieth century computer age completes the design, the third cupro-nickel circle depicting a pattern derived from silicon chips and the outer ring of nickel-brass representing the Internet. As a whole, the design is an evocative reminder that developments in technology have been built on the accomplishments of previous generations, an acknowledgement that is also summed up in the words chosen for the edge inscription, words of Isaac Newton: 'if I have seen further it is by STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS'.

Coin Collections

By Daphne,

Always a pleasure to order and rceive coins from Royal Mint but this year the grandchildren have had fun finding the Sports edition apart from the Shooting one which has proved to be very elusive.

Grandchildren

By elizabeth,

This is the 2nd set I'm purchasing - I was so pleased with the set bought for my granddaughter, this one is now for my little grandson. Something a little different as a Christmas gift.
