There are so many occasions when you want to wish a friend or loved one good luck. Exams, driving test, a new job, moving to a new home… or simply to say ‘thank you’. An authentic silver sixpence is the perfect way to express your best wishes and let them know you are in their thoughts for the big event.
When you ‘say it with a sixpence’ your thoughtful gift is sure to be treasured both now, as a precious moment in time, and in the future forever.
First introduced in 1551 during the reign of Edward VI the ‘tanner’, as it has become affectionately known, has long been considered as a lucky coin. During WWII, Royal Air Force aircrew flew missions with a sixpence sewn behind their wings. At weddings, the father of the bride would slip one into his daughter’s shoe and at Christmas, children would hope to be the one to find the lucky sixpence stirred into the pudding.
The silver sixpence you’ll receive is dated between 1920 and 1946 and was struck at The Royal Mint, then located at Tower Hill in London. As this is an authentic coin that was once in general circulation, we have selected the best of those that have survived to the present day. Depending on the year, it features the head of either George V or George VI.
Beautifully presented in a smart gift box, it comes with an informative booklet with space for you to write your own special message to make a truly individual gift that will be appreciated forever.
