Be part of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games with the first two sets of three gold coins of the Gold Series Collection and complete the nine-coin collection in 2012. The limited edition Gold Series Collection represents the unique heritage and superior craftsmanship of the Royal Mint – a beautiful collection for those who wish to own a piece of Olympic Gold.
The Gold Series is the premium collection in the official London 2012 Coin Programme – a magnificent set of 22 carat gold coins inspired by the official motto of the Olympic Games: Citius, Altius, Fortius – Faster, Higher, Stronger. Produced by the Royal Mint, the first coins of the Gold Series representing Faster were released in 2010 and now, in 2011 and featuring the iconic Olympic Rings, the three gold coins representing Higher are available presented together with the Faster coins in a nine-coin case. The final three coins representing Stronger will be released in 2012 which will fit into the case to complete the prestigious Gold Series.
Each three-coin set contains a £100 coin containing one full ounce of fine gold and two £25 coins of a quarter-ounce of fine gold, all struck to superior Proof quality. The sports of Sailing, Cycling and Running feature on the coins of the Faster collection, each paired with a Roman god – Neptune, Diana and Mercury, while the sports of Diving, Pole Vaulting and Gymnastics with the gods Jupiter, Juno and Apollo feature on the Higher gold coins. These designs have been created by the British sculptor John Bergdahl and, like all legal tender UK coins, the obverses feature the portrait of the Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS.
