Designed by the nation

In January 2009 the Royal Mint launched its biggest ever competition, inviting the British public to design a series of new 50p coins. Thousands of excellent designs were received from all over the UK, featuring all 29 sports of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The best designs were selected and now they’ve been made into coins for you to collect as lasting mementoes of London 2012.

The designer of the Shooting coin

Pravin Dewdhory is a graphic designer who lives in Hackney, London. He drew inspiration for his design for the Shooting coin from the graphics that are being used in the Olympics branding, which is starting to appear through his area of residence.

Rip off!

By Jeff,

Charging 6x the value of the 50p coins just for the benefit of a small information card is bad enough but making a delivery charge that well exceeds the actual cost (for a small number of coins) is just TOO MUCH!
