London 2012 50p sports collection

To make sure you can acquire the complete collection, The Royal Mint has struck the 29 coins to uncirculated quality and presented in colourful packs. All 29 coins come with the Completer Medalion and a specially designed album to protect the coins for posterity - an exciting and highly affordable souvenir of this historic event.

The set you see here has been struck by our craftsmen at The Royal Mint in cupro-nickel to a higher standard than the coins in your pocket. It comes in a Collector Album which is specially designed to protect the coins for future generations as well as giving fascinating facts and figures about the Games. Don’t miss your chance to acquire the full set and own one of the most affordable, long-lasting and tasteful keepsakes of the London 2012 Games.

The Royal Mint held an open competition to design the reverse of each of the 29 50p coins, representing the 29 sports of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Over 30,000 entries were received from members of the public. As a result, this is perhaps the most vibrant, creative and passionate collection The Royal Mint has ever issued.

The winning designs were chosen by The Royal Mint Advisory Committee and officially approved by Her Majesty The Queen. The obverse of all 29 coins features the familiar, graceful portrait of the Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS which has appeared on all legal tender UK coinage since 1998.

coins are good but packing looks too cheap to be a collector's set

By Tingying,

For the reputation of Royalmint and Olympic, this set of coins disappointed me by packing. The coins themselves are well designed and made, but as a collection set, the paper book looks too cheap, and somehow the design of the book doesn't match the style of the coins. If it were not of the coins, I would consider it a 1€ product, rather than a seriously expensive collection.
