This is a Games for all Scotland, a Games that has captured the hearts and minds of the nation, and of the world. And this official 50p, now available as a superb double-thickness Piedfort coin in sterling silver, is the perfect reminder of a new chapter in Britain’s sporting history.
To mark such a special occasion as Glasgow 2014 it is only fitting that we call upon the Piedfort, king among coins, striking an impressive double-thickness 50p in sterling silver to our world-renowned Proof quality. This is the first time a coin with a sporting theme has been struck since the Olympic Games of London 2012, and as sporting coins are among our most sought after issues, this special edition Piedfort coin will be in the highest demand.
The official Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games 50p has been designed by new coin designer, Alex Loudon, capturing the spirit of Glasgow 2014 and the XX Commonwealth Games. The Scottish Saltire underpins the design, with a cyclist and an athlete conveying the power and sporting excellence of those competing at Glasgow 2014. Continuing the Scottish theme is lettering inspired by the work of a hero of the host city, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Only 1,000 collectors, visitors to the Games or international enthusiasts will be able to secure one of these strictly limited edition coins presented in a Royal Mint display case and completed with Certificate of Authenticity and a booklet exploring the story behind Glasgow 2014.
