The only official new coin design for Prince George

In 2013, a year of many Royal celebrations, the nation has united once more to celebrate the safe arrival of the future heir to the throne, Prince George of Cambridge. As the young prince is christened The Royal Mint commemorates a Royal christening for the first time ever with official coins, approved by the Palace. This superb Silver Proof Five-Ounce coin, one of our premier commemorative coins, bears the specially commissioned christening design by John Bergdahl. It is a magnificent way to mark this regal occasion.
The world celebrated the birth of the first child of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and to mark the Royal christening we turn to a suitably splendid coin. Only the most elegant of coins could be chosen for this important moment, and the Silver Proof Five-Ounce, with its six-centimetre diameter expertly filled by John Bergdahl, makes a handsome memento.
John Bergdahl’s intricate design takes its inspiration from centuries of Royal christening traditions. Struck on the impressive Five-Ounce, his design is highlighted by stunning fine silver and finished to our unrivalled standards. The Five-Ounce is reserved for the most special occasions and makes an impressive addition to the most comprehensive collections. Only 1,660 of the exclusive Christening of HRH Prince George of Cambridge 2013 UK Silver Five-Ounce Coins will be available – reflecting the birth year of King George I – meaning demand will no doubt be very high.

Marking a Royal christening for the very first time

A very special year for the Royal family, 2013 has seen many events celebrated, culminating in the birth of His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge on 22 July. Millions rejoiced as the news of his safe arrival was announced. Not only was this a momentous moment in our nation’s history but also a time of great cheer.

We now continue the celebrations by commemorating the christening of Prince George – the first time ever that The Royal Mint has celebrated a Royal christening. John Bergdahl’s design is baroque in style and he has chosen to include the Lily Font, which represents so many Royal christening traditions. When presented on a silver Five-Ounce coin the design is most impressive, an exclusive reminder of this special occasion - the christening of a future monarch. There is a strict limit of just 1,660 coins, each housed in an attractive display case and presented with Certificate of Authenticity.
