Meticulously crafted to an astonishing level of perfection in 22ct gold, this unique commemorative 50p is first time ever that a composer has been featured on a UK coin. It is also the first 50p coin to show both date and denomination on the obverse.
Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Benjamin Britten, the 50p was developed with the official Britten-Pears Foundation. Designed by Royal Academician Tom Phillips CBE it celebrates Britten’s work with words he set to music in ‘Serenade’ by the poet Tennyson.
