The eight definitive coins, familiar in everyday use today, capture the history of Britain in their own unique way. The £2 coin, introduced in 1997 and the first bi-colour coin for the UK, celebrates the march of technology from the Iron Age to the Internet and was designed by Bruce Rushin who won a public competition to find a suitable reverse design. The lower denominations from the 50p to the 1p unite to reveal the Royal Arms seen in its entirety on the £1 coin and were designed by Matthew Dent who won the public competition to find designs to replace those created for the first decimal coins of 1971.

I have never been disappointed by anything I have bought from the Royal Mint? The quality is always exceptional. I wish I could say the same with the US Mint. Several of the presidential dollars in my US proof set arrived tarnished today. Keep up the great work Royal Mint!
