Collector coins issued by the Royal Mint play a distinctive role in commemorating important events and anniversaries, and in doing so they become in their own way national symbols.
This book explores the history that lies behind the themes of the commemorative coins issued in 2007 and the artists inspiration for each coin design.
Themes covered include the Diamond Wedding anniversary of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, The Act of Union, The Abolition of the Slave and 100 years of the Scout Movement.
Chapters have also been included which focus on the one pound coin, the sovereign and the design of the Britannia bullion coins of 2007.
