The 300th Anniversary of the Death of Queen Anne £5
The story of Queen Anne is the story of the last in a dynasty – in 1702 she became the last Stuart queen. Three centuries later her reign is synonymous with a refined and graceful style in architecture, furniture and art. For many collectors Anne’s is a reign of great interest, her coinage regarded as among the most beautiful, giving rise to many numismatic treasures struck by The Royal Mint. Sculptor Mark Richards FRBS – creator of the £5 coin struck for the wedding of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – has recalled that elegant time in his intricate design.
While Anne’s life and times are of such historical interest, her story is also a moving one. Anne lost many children and left behind her no heir, making her commemoration all the more poignant.
