The Government and The Royal Mint have worked closely with a number of industries to understand their individual requirements and the impact that a new £1 coin might have on the wider cash cycle. This was conducted via the following channels:

• Appearances at industry forums and conferences
• Meetings with trade bodies and stakeholders
• Contact with over 200 organisations and/or individuals by email
• Joined-up engagement with the Bank of England (through its Polymer Banknote Project)

Manufacturers of coin validation equipment are now preparing upgrades for the wide variety of equipment that will accept and dispense the new 12-sided £1 coin.

The Royal Mint has provided these manufacturers with trial pieces of the new coin for equipment testing and development processes. A list of companies that have been sent trial pieces for this purpose is below:
