Quality Assurance

Each coin purchased from The Royal Mint comes with a certificate of authenticity, an assurance of quality and true worth.

On that assurance rests the good name and reputation the mint has built up over its 1,000-year history.

Accreditation to ISO 9001 means that strict quality assurance procedures ensure pieces of only the highest quality are issued.

That’s why coins and medals from The Royal Mint are so prized by collectors, who see them as among the finest examples of the art of minting.

The makers of Proof coins bring cutting-edge technology to the service of skilled craftsmanship gradually built up over centuries of experience. Each Proof coin is carefully inspected throughout the manufacturing process to make sure that only perfect specimens are issued. The certificate of authenticity also details, where appropriate, the issue limit of the coins produced.

Uncirculated coins, while not polished to quite the same high standard, are minted so as to enhance their brilliance, and are also carefully inspected throughout the process.

Bullion coins, produced from precious metal and kept as an investment rather than for every day use, are available either as proof or uncirculated coins, and are made of 22 carat gold, or silver. Among others, the Royal Mint makes the highly-regarded gold sovereign bullion coins.
