Inspired by the poetry of Rudyard Kipling, the addition of oak leaves to the laurel wreath symbolises Britain and the victories won, while we are reminded of the human cost of war in the image of a lone soldier in silent reflection. The year-dated coin marks 100 years on from 1917 and has been struck in five ounces of 999.9 fine gold. Just 50 gold Proof editions will be struck, and each coin is accompanied by a booklet with imagery specially sourced by Imperial War Museums for this moving tribute.
