As a very special way to say 'welcome to the world', the 2007 Baby Gift Set has a magic all of its own.Nine coins, each struck to Brilliant Uncirculated standard, are housed in a protective slipcase with space to record those all−important details, from grandparents' names to place of birth and birthweight.A permanent link to baby's birth year, this set is the ideal gift for a christening, naming ceremony or even first birthday.
In this set, you have the nine coins most usually seen in circulation in the UK: the two-pounds, one-pound, fifty pence, twenty pence, ten pence, five pence and one penny. Each is struck to Brilliant Uncirculated standard. The coins are highly polished and prepared to a meticulous standard far higher than you would generally see in loose change.Mounted securely in a presentation folder and slipcase, they are the perfect way to record the new arrival.
Alongside the well-known designs of the five smaller denominations, this collection features four brand new designs specially commissioned by The Royal Mint for 2007.The two-pound coins commemorate two hugely significant dates in British history. David Gentleman's simple yet evocative design harks back to 1807 and the abolition of the slave trade with a broken chain motif cleverly incorporating the date itself. For the 300th Anniversary of the Act of Union two-pound coin, Yvonne Holton, FRSA has quartered a rose and thistle growing from a single stem with two portcullis, interlocked as jigsaw pieces to symbolise the Act of Union itself. The Gateshead Millennium Bridge one-pound coin celebrates yet another triumph of British engineering with a new design by Australian-born wood engraver Edwina Ellis. Her richly figured design captivates the eye with the asymmetric curves of this 126-metre bridge over the Tyne. The 2007 Scouting Centenary fifty pence features on its reverse a new design by Royal Mint engraver Kerry Jones. Her design incorporates the globe, which symbolises the worldwide Scout Movement; the famous fleur-de-lys emblem, and the Scouts' motto, 'Be prepared'.
