Since 1982 the Giant Panda, a beautiful yet poignant symbol of endangered wildlife, has appeared on the coinage of China. This year the Bank of China has issued a 2008 China Panda Silver Bullion Coin containing one troy ounce of fine silver. The reverse design features a Giant Panda with her cub, while the obverse shows the Prayer Hall in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing.
As a gift...The silver Panda bullion coins are among the world's most popular bullion coins and would make an ideal gift for any occasion.
The Giant Panda was chosen for the reverse design of the coins as being synonymous with and representative of China. A new design is used for each year of issue (with the exception of 2002, which repeated the 2001 design) and the new designs are always eagerly awaited by coin collectors the world over. The Prayer Hall in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing adorns the obverse of the coins - another image immediately associated with the Chinese culture.
